This same thing happens with everything from Volkh projectors, etc. And yes, there have always been door-to-door sales, but Kirby, Avon, etc. don't claim their products sell for hundreds or even thousands of dollars more elsewhere. Even traditional retail outlets like drug stores package their products to look just like the main brands. But perhaps they're made in the same factory as those main brands. That's the reason why I have trouble with your post. With all respect, you begin by concocting a fake history of a company that is well known and faces legal indictments, by pretending they are in Germany...
If they sound great good buy, if they dont sorry man check out what you buy before you pay for it, if they wont let you check it out say no, their loss not yours. Ya know it's almost as bad when people pay thousands of dollars for BLOSE..and that's in a retail store! As sad as this is and wish the OP got their money back, I'd like to know the rational behind buying from a source like this. Did this person say why he decided to by them?
I hate that people actually fall for this and get their hard-earned money basically stolen from them. I'd love to be able to give him a call with some advice. So guys, long story short; I had a customer come into my HT area asking about some speakers he shelled out $3k for online and was wanting to know what I thought. All I can say is you didn't convince me at all to your point.

Selling anything under those conditions contitutes a scam IMO. Hey, I might even be guilty of it myself . I've bought and sold quite a few things off ebay and craigslist (todays flea market and garage sale?) but none of it was new. But I advertised my product or responded to someone elses add, I didn't go looking for customers in parking lots. To me, that's one of the biggest things that concerns me about this type of activity.
They took out the catalog and showed him that they retail for $1,999.00 each. When he came home to tell me this, I googled the name Wahldorf Home Theater Systems and found this model and their site seems legit? I'm not sure why everyone is calling this a scam since the product came in factory sealed boxes and came with all the items that is listed on the Wahldorf site. The guy did jot down his name and tel# on a receipt from a sound company that sells this kind of stuff. I tried to call the sound company on the receipt and then decided to hang up.

I even see these things pop up on our local Craigslist on occassion. Everything screams "run away" but yet people happily buy into this scam. ya know it's almost as bad when people pay thousands of dollars for BLOSE..and that's in a retail store! Unfortunately, anything that one would buy from a "no-name" vendor online is pretty much "caveat emptor", unless there is a blatant level of false advertising. All they did was offer crappy speakers with vague specifications and generic praise at ridiculously high ("oh, I need those speakers; they must be as good as those Paradigms that cost the same amount.") prices. Dolby Digital Plus lets you go through all from the enveloping multichannel surround sound that Blu-ray Disc, high definition broadcast, and streamed and downloaded media make possible.

The Waldorf only lasted from 1926 to 1933 as a legitimate theatre. It was then rearranged so that movies could be presented in the auditorium while the stage and backsage area could be used as retail stores. Movies did not last, though, and soon the whole building was made up of stores. In 1968, it was demolished and the Exxon building was built on the site by the Rockefeller Center. I'd tell you that if you join with me and point out the fraudulent nature of these sales, then all is forgiven. If you continue the defense, then you have to realize it's important for people here to make sure it is countered, so that others cannot get taken. Purchasing to "sell out of a non-location" is a violation of the law in every state. If they do it as a practice as a "large business" they are openly violating tax laws and they would be violating their location agreements with every credit card company..
